Minecraft: A Real-Life Theme Park Based on the Popular Game
Minecraft, a globally popular sandbox game developed by Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios, will soon become a reality as a themed amusement park. Known for its distinctive block-based world, Minecraft has captured the imaginations of millions worldwide.
According to The Guardian on the 19th (local time), Microsoft has partnered with Merlin Entertainments, a European theme park operator, to create Minecraft-themed attractions, including rides, shops, and hotel rooms. Merlin operates over 135 attractions in 23 countries, including Alton Towers, LEGOLAND, and the London Eye.
Under the terms of the agreement, Merlin will invest £85 million (approximately 150.3 billion KRW) to establish Minecraft theme parks in the UK and the US, with completion expected in 2026 and 2027, respectively. This project marks the largest initiative by Merlin since acquiring LEGOLAND in 2005.
The collaboration, named "Adventures Made Real," aims to expand the partnership to other countries and regions over time.
Kaelyn Walters, Vice President of Franchise Development at Microsoft Gaming, stated, "We are everywhere digitally, and Merlin is everywhere physically. Together, we’ve shared a vision of bringing Minecraft beyond gaming."
Scott O’Neil, CEO of Merlin Entertainments, expressed his excitement, saying, “This agreement is just the beginning. Bringing Minecraft to life will be one of the greatest joys of our journey.”
